Eastern Hutt Club 50th Anniversary Celebrations

Gazebo opening
Following a busy week in the Wairarapa we were able to be present for the Rotary Club of Eastern Hutt’s opening of the Avalon gazebo.  This was built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club and named in honour of their longest standing member, Dave Smith.  The function was presided over by Club President Paul Giles and attended by Past International President Bill Boyd and Lorna, the Mayor of Lower Hutt, Ray Wallace, and Club members.

On the Saturday night we were privileged to attend a black tie event in celebration of the Clubs 50th year anniversary that was held at the Silverstream Retreat.   Bill Boyd gave an inspiring speech congratulating the great work of the club and also giving insights into Rotary International.  This was followed by Paul Harris presentations to Colin Alford, Dave Wilson and their wives Jan and Margaret in recognition of the amazing work they do.  A Paul Harris was also given to Lorna in recognition of her contribution in assisting Bill in his roles within Rotary.  Dave Smith was honoured by jazz items preformed by fellow Eastern Hutt members showing the amazing talent within our Rotary Clubs.

Cake cutting

Following a cake cutting by the oldest and newest members of the club we were entertained by solo singing performances by opera singer Helen Lear and jazz singer Bella Kalolo, both these ladies having Rotary connections.
